Sue Henderson

Age: 64

Sex: female

Date: 15 Feb 2020

Place: Fox Hill Crescent, Sheffield

Sue Henderson was knocked down by a car in Foxhill Crescent, Sheffield at about 5.30pm on 15 February 2020.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6pm.

She had been hit by a silver VW Passat car that was later found burnt out about half-a-mile away in Crowder Avenue.

She had been hit during Storm Dennis at which time there had been heavy rain and wind.

She had parked opposite her house after having dropped off her husband and had been crossing the street at the time she was hit.

The VW Passat car had been driving down Foxhill Crescent when it had hit her and had thrown her some distance down the road, the impact being described as 'hard'.

The police said, 'And the car, we know from CCTV, does stop a short distance down the road. It pauses and sets off and then stops again before disappearing from view. A short time later at 6.38pm South Yorkshire Fire received a report of a car on fire on wasteland at the rear of Crowder Avenue, about one-and-a-half miles from the scene of the collision. Thirty three minutes later three people return to the site and one is carrying something akin to a Jerry can for fire setting, the fire was so vicious it turned the camera from night mode to colour'.

The police noted that although numerous people heard the crash and saw the aftermath, that no one saw the car driving away.

The speed limit in Foxhill Crescent had been 30mph at the time.

The police said that the car had been seen quite actively driving around Sheffield the previous day, but that CCTV footage didn't show the driver.

The police later made two arrests, but said that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution.

Sue Henderson's husband said that he saw the driver of the silver VW Passat car, saying, 'I saw the guy the day it happened, driving around. Sue had to stop for him as she dropped me off. He lived just up from me. I saw him two weeks after driving about in a car with a T-shirt over his head and the car was not taxed or insured because I checked it on the Government website. One day I was sat outside where I live talking with my neighbours and he drove past and looked up slowly. Now I feel exactly the same as I did then. It's been three years and I still miss her. I still want justice and I hope they get him'.
